Thursday: Hiking and Wine Tasting
The winners of the survey are in! Hiking and wine tasting it is. Here is the plan:
At 11:00am, we'll meet at KJ's Bear Creek Cafe on the "main drag" of Trout Lake. We'll carpool up to the trail head for Sleeping Beauty Mountain. The trail is does have some elevation gain, but it is only 1.4 miles from the trail head to the top. We will start out in dense timber, before the trail opens up at the top revealing all the Cascade volcanoes: Rainer, Adams, Hood and St. Helens. It should be beautiful! After we come off the hike, we will go back through Trout Lake, where you can get lunch, or buy some cheese and crackers at the store to enjoy at our next stop, the Wind River Cellars. If you weren't part of the hike, you can meet us at the winery around 3:00pm. We'll taste wines, enjoy the large deck, and can have a look around the grounds. It should be interesting as we are getting very close to harvest time!
Friday: Whitewater Rafting
On Friday, we are going rafting on the White Salmon River! You must pre-register with our guides, Wet Planet. The best way to do this is calling them on the phone at 1-800-306-1673. Make sure to tell them you are with the Anderson-Upshaw wedding party. You may also register online with this form.
Price: $52 per person.
Meeting Time: 9:00AM. Please plan on arriving 10-15 minutes before. If you are late, you risk missing your trip. On our busier weekends during the summer, we may call you the day before your trip to slightly adjust your trip time (by 15-30 minutes) so that we can ensure that the boats are not crowded on the river. The trip should be done by around 1:00PM.
Directions: To reach our headquarters from Portland / Vancouver , take I-84 East. Take exit 64. Turn left and cross the Hood River Bridge . After crossing the bridge, turn left on Hwy. 14. In 1.5 miles, turn right onto Alternate Hwy 141. Continue for 2.2 miles, then bear left onto Hwy 141. Continue for 4.0 miles. Wet Planet Rafting and Kayaking is on the right side of Hwy 141 just before crossing the river at Husum Falls. Click for map.
What to Bring: All you need to bring is a swimsuit. We will provide all other gear needed for the trip: wetsuit, footwear, splash jacket, fleece sweater if needed, helmet, and flotation jacket. You will use your car as a locker for your clothes and valuables while you are on the river, and leave your keys with us.
